Case Study

Cold-Tunnel Hibernation Sorter

Mechatronics Engineer ยท BigSis (Zyzzle Ltd), UK
Problem

Downstream handling and quality checks required product to be temporarily and safely hibernated via controlled cooling, without breaching biosecurity or uniformity requirements.

Approach
  • Engineered a multi-fan forced-convection cooling system for uniform airflow and thermal gradients across the tunnel
  • Integrated a precision wiper mechanism to distribute product evenly for consistent thermal exposure
  • Designed a converging guide to feed the cooling channel, and a feedscrew-driven transport to regulate residence time
Result

Consistent hibernation duration and thermal exposure across every unit, with mechanical sealing preventing humid-air ingress, and scaled cleanly into full production.
